1. Choose target pages
Decide which pages need links: the homepage, category pages or specific articles and product pages. Spreading links across several relevant pages looks more natural than pointing everything at one URL.
2. Plan anchor text
Anchor text is the clickable text of a link. Common types:
- Brand: your brand or site name.
- URL: the bare address, such as example.com.
- Generic: phrases like “this guide” or “here”.
- Partial match: a phrase that contains the keyword together with other words.
- Exact match: the keyword itself.
Natural link profiles are dominated by brand, URL and generic anchors. A large share of exact-match anchors is a typical sign of manipulation, so use them sparingly.
3. Set the pace
Adding links gradually over weeks and months looks closer to how real sites gain mentions than adding hundreds at once. Split large volumes into regular batches.
4. Mix link types
Crowd links work best together with other types: profile links for a branded base, submissions for structured listings and Web 2.0 posts for contextual links with planned anchors.
5. Check what you receive
- Open each link URL and confirm the page loads.
- Check that the link is present and points to the right page.
- Look at the link attribute (dofollow, nofollow or ugc).
- Make sure the thread is on a related topic.
